Iron Your Food!

I’ve decided that I need a grill press.

No, I’m not a big cooker of bacon or burgers, but I often find the need to press things into the pan in order to obtain a better result.

I’ve resisted the urge to purchase one for years, thinking that having one would target me as a heavy eater of fat (not that I don’t eat fried stuff, but I like to keep it minimal). However, I’ve realized that an iron would be of immense help in many lower-fat situations (grilled sandwiches, pan-grilled potatoes, turkey sausage…).

I thought an antique iron might be ideal for aesthetic reasons (they’re so retro-cool). Besides, the idea of ironing food amuses me quite a bit (I’m easily amused). Many of those irons of the past, though, are made out of asbestos and the thought of mixing food and asbestos does not appeal (though, unless the asbestos is compromised and I breathe in some fibers, there really shouldn’t be an issue, but still…).

So, I’m on the market for a top-notch press. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
