Duck sliders: I thought ducks swam?
When I saw a tapas menu featuring Duck Sliders, I couldn’t figure out what the heck that meant. When I hear “slider,” I think “oysters.”
Always adventurous, I ordered one anyways.
What arrived was a gorgeous little mini-burger on a bun, topped with a fragrant creamy sauce.
Ground duck: now why didn’t I think of that? Duck is, after all, my favorite poultry for eating (sorry, Daffy). But I usually think of it on the bone or as slices of dark meat surrounding a tender reddened interior.
No more. My horizons have been broadened.
The burger was the best little snack I’ve had in a long while. It was tender and juicy, masquerading as a dainty hamburger, but with a more complex and interesting taste. At $1.99 each during happy hour, I’ll make the 45 minute drive from my house to Hartford again just for one of these.
Thank you, Trumbull Kitchen.
I should probably mention that the Kitchen’s $1.99 happy-hour tapas menu has other interesting and tasty tidbits too: like Clams Casino and their watermelon and goat-cheese salad (which could have used more goat cheese, but was refreshing and colorful with both traditional red and exotic yellow melon).
Order one of each of the tapas offerings and you can get a whole meal for $12. In this economy, that’s good eats!
