Licorice or Liquorice?

Despite my friendship with certain persons from Finland, where licorice is all the rage (they even blacken their vodka with it), I’ve never been a huge licorice fan.

Sure, my work in a movie theater brought me in touch with Good ‘n Plenty and Red Vines, but…no.

However, I was just introduced to a certain Australian soft red licorice (or “liquorice” as they provocatively spell it) that takes Red Vines and hangs them by their own long red waxy ropes.

Hello Darrell Lea!

This Australian institution features a range of licorice flavors, from traditional to blackcurrant to mango. This gives me yet another reason to plan a trip down under, or at least to harangue my local Trader Joe’s to carry more flavors of the stuff.

Hard to find. Worth the effort.

  1. Honey:

But Licorice is the yum! Licorice vodka you say? The only thing about Scandinavians is that they tend to like salty licorice, which is rather difficult for me to enjoy. Candy should not be hard work to eat. I’m going to have to try black currant licorice, the thought is making my mouth water. You should try Panda Raspberry licorice too.
