Fear and Food

When I’m nervous about something, among other things (like cold hands and frequent bathroom trips) I get this peculiar feeling in my stomach that causes me to feel nauseous and, hence, not hungry at all.

Once, very recently, after choking down a piece of toast at 6:30 a.m. I was unable to eat anything solid again until, well, 8:00 p.m. Almost fourteen hours. For a girl who likes to eat, this is quite indicative of serious distress. Even my stomach was so stressed out it never growled. Not once.

Sigh. It’s a very lonely place when this happens. All around me I see people functioning normally, some are even happily eating and having fun. Meanwhile, I’m trying not to hurl and trying not to succumb to the demons in my head. This makes me wonder how others react to their own nervousness. I’m hoping some reactions are even weirder than my relatively pedestrian ones, if only for solace in knowing I’m not alone.

Let’s catalog some things that could be worse:
copious sweating
itchiness
eye twitches…or whole body twitches
fainting
actually vomiting

There. I feel better now. Let’s eat.
