Gastrointestinal = Gastronomy

Like technology, one’s digestive system is great when it works, but a big disaster when it doesn’t.

Just ask my cat.

Earlier this year his system crashed.  Now he’s relegated to living out the remainder of his days imbibing stool-softeners and little pills of Propulcid (yes, that is the name) to encourage his intestines to do their job.  I haven’t told him about the fact that the drug has been removed from the human market because of cardiac implications.  The vet assures me this effect hasn’t been seen in felines, but still….

Anyway, I’ve never thought I’d spend so much time monitoring cat input and output.

(I never promised this blog would be just about good food or the happy eating thoughts, did I?)

Like my computer when it’s running well, I never think of its inside operations.   So, as we approach Thanksgiving, my poor little kitty-boy still with us, let’s take a moment to honor the seamy underside that makes all that good eating possible.

And eat your fiber.
