Pies for a Purpose
I am pleased to announce that my Grandmother’s pineapple pie (as made by moi and with the addition of vanilla bean) took second place in a workplace pie showdown today. This was out of about 24 sweet pies in the running. Pretty darn good if you ask me. Thanks, Gram.
The event was a fundraiser for a food bank. My colleagues and I made pies and anyone (pie maker or not) could donate $5 to taste as much as they wanted and then vote on their favorites.
A delicious and deserving endeavor, indeed.

Congratulations! Did you do it all by yourself or did your spouse help any by deciding which flour to use. Just kidding. What was 1st Place?
Can you share the recipe? How much money was raised?
[Ed. Note: Hit the link in the post for the recipe or go to my “Recipes” page. I believe about $300 was raised overall. The winner in the savory category was a pear cheddar tart and in the sweet category was a caramel apple confection.]
