Food Porn
Isn’t that a delicious term?
Alas, I did not make it up. It aptly, if sometimes sardonically, describes a type of appetizing advertising or presentation of food items–one in which food is presented as the sensual and (ahem) “arousing” stuff it is.
It can be its own satisfaction–a kind of substitute for actually preparing and eating the food depicted. It’s all about the visual spectacle.
And boy can it make you hungry for more. If you think about those 5:30 p.m. food commercials they taunt you with as you struggle along on the treadmill at the gym after work, you’ll know what I mean. Those advertisers know what they’re doing. So does the Food Network.
For my own food-porn (sorta) site, see my Flickr page. And you don’t even need to be 18!
