Eating on the Island
I like to contemplate the following question to remind myself of specific things that give me joy:
“If you had to be stranded on a desert island for the rest of your life and could take only five X with you, what would they be?”
So, for instance, you could replace variable “X” with “songs.” In that category–impossibly difficult as it is to pare such things down–mine (today, at least) would be: (1) Lavender Coffin by Lionel Hampton; (2) Heart of Glass by Blondie; (3) Closer to Fine by the Indigo Girls; (4) Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes; and (5) Missundaztood by Pink. And I’d probably try to sneak in all the swingin’ Ella Fitzgerald I could. Can you say “eclectic”?
Today, I was contemplating the question, replacing “X” with “food items.” Here are my picks as of this moment: (1) Fran’s chocolates; (2) sushi; (3) popcorn-flavored Jelly Bellies; (4) potatoes; and (5) dill Havarti cheese.

I love the post! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this very conversation.
I think my five food items that I would take would be: 1) Brown rice 2) Tomatoes 3) Apples 4) Beef (various cuts-o-cow) 5) Spinach
I left fish out assuming that I’d be able to catch it myself, and wouldn’t have to bring it with me.
