Toasting the New Year
Lest ye think this site devoid of spirits, let me take a moment to recommend a certain festive libation to help you celebrate your New Year’s Eve: Lindeman’s lambics.
Lambic is a type of aged wheat beer brewed in Belgium (from 60-70% malted barley and 30-40% wheat, I have learned). If you think you don’t like beer or ales (a strange belief, but common, as I understand it), try these. Lindemans infuses their lambics with fruit essences. They have a number of flavors, which I am languorously working my way through. So far, I have had their cherry (Kriek), raspberry (Framboise), and Peach (Pecheresse). All are spectacularly complex and go down smoothly and flavorfully. They also display beautiful coloration in the glass. The Framboise, for instance, is a festive and bubbly deep rosy red, so perfect for toasting that we used it for our wedding toast.
Trust me. It won’t be just another auld lang syne.
A TOAST: Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)
